CONTRAST (ZITLIK)

Though cümle sonunda da gelebilir ve anlamı but/yet olur, but/yet cümle sonunda kullanılmaz AMA!
2. Despite / In spite of / For all / Notwithstanding / In the face of / in defiance of + isim: -e rağmen
Notwithstanding ismi öncesine de alabilir, unutma! Injuries notwithstanding, ….. .
3. No matter + wh- / Regardless of + wh- / irrespective of + wh-: Wh- + ever  gelen wh-soru kelimesine göre anlam kazanır (Her ne olursa olsun, hangisi olursa olsun, nasıl olursa olsun, vs.)
Regardless of / irrespective of + isim -e bakılmaksızın, düşünülmeksizin, gözetilmeksizin olarak da görülebilir, unutma!
4. Adjective / Adverb + as/though: Although anlamı verir. Strange as it may seem, … .
5. Try as + someone + may/might: “Çok çabalamasına rağmen başaramadı/başaramıyor” anlamında kullanılır.
6. However / nevertheless / nonetheless / even so / all the same / notwithstanding / but / yet / still / but…still / yet … still / but…anyway + cümle: ama, yine de
7. Rather: bunun yerine (instead)
8. Be that as it may: nevertheless: yine de (….. but, be that as it may, …. )
9. in contrast, on the contrary, quite the contrary, contrarily, but/yet, however: aksine, ama, fakat, ancak
10. (on the one hand …… .) On the other hand: öte yandan (genellikle baştaki ifade gelmez)
On the other hand ile on the contrary karışmasın: on the contrary önceki cümlede söylenenin tam tersini söyler (aksine). On the other hand ise önceki cümlenin devamı niteliğindedir, aynı durumun farklı bir yönünden bahseder (öte yandan). Örnekleri inceleyiniz!
- On the one hand, computer games develop many skills, but on the other, they mean kids don't get enough exercise. (Bir yandan bilgisayar oyunları birçok beceriyi geliştirir, öte yandan çocukların yeterince hareket edememesi anlamına gelir)
- On the one hand, mobile phones are very useful and can save lives. On the other hand, people seem to use them for the most pointless and unnecessary calls. (Bir yandan, cep telefonları çok faydalı ve hayat kurtarabilir. Diğer yandan, insanlar onları en anlamsız ve gereksiz görüşmeler için kullanmaktadır.)
- He didn’t seem offended by her criticisms; on the contrary, he seemed to enjoy them. (Onun eleştirilerine kırılmamıştı, aksine, keyif almıştı)
